If you are looking to save a bit of time and money this holiday season, as most of us are, a potluck holiday celebration may be an excellent solution! But did you know that potluck meals come with a host of other benefits as well?

As Sarah Larkins writes in her article from the Examiner.com, there are 5 great reasons to host a potluck: 1) You’ll save money; 2) The food is better; 3) They eliminate stress; 4) Everyone can get involved; 5) It’s a new experience. These are all excellent reasons, but 4) and 5) might be the two most significant (after saving money, of course!). The holidays should be about creating wonderful memories with your loved ones, part of that means getting everyone involved, especially when it’s something that they normally wouldn’t do. You can have smaller children help prepare dishes that are a bit simpler, and older children and grown members of the family, who do not normally cook, can create something more elaborate.

When we look back on our fondest memories of our holidays past, they are often involving the traditions that were unique to our families. Potluck style celebrations can help you create some of those special family traditions for your own children.
