The average Canadian spends more than $1,600 on Holiday activities: gifts, entertaining etc.
Planning now can help prevent the financial hangover. After setting a budget, consider what you need to cover and if you’d like to reign in the expenses. If so, the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend is a prime time to talk to family about reducing expenses.
Because it’s an “irregular” expense we don’t build it in to our monthly budgets. There are still a couple of months to start building a holiday fund.
